Laura Ingalls Wilder, We Love You 08/27/2010

We love a good bonnet and especially one with a tie for days spent in the berry patch. We were so excited to come across this little beauty on Etsy. If Little House on the Prairie and Holly Hobby had had a baby bonnet it would  have been this one and with the tie it is oh, so handy for  mamas with babes who refuse to keep anything on their heads. Now, fill up that bonnet with some chubby baby cheeks and watch out, too cute. This bonnet made from found 1980s red and white gingham & candy stripe cotton is reversible with geometric and soft pattern florals. Dots vintage cotton bias tape ties. Featherstitch, hand embroidered look top stitching. Adjustable back for maximum wearability. Available in three sizes, S, M, L and different fabrics, custom bonnets too. It’s a keeper and will last through a couple of kiddos. $22.50, here.

It’s Tutu Time 07/20/2010

Filed under: play & learn, read & listen, totally toddler, wear & diaper — cleeo @ 5:31 pm

Another score for Nana, who bought this tutu for our kiddos second hand. Everytime our tot hears music, it’s “tutu time” and “tutu time” has become an intergal part of our dance party routine. We aren’t especially girly or into pink, but there’s just something to be said for dressing up in a frilly outfit and dancing. Any tutu will do, of course, but we like Danskin’s all-in-one tutu+leotard combo with a sweetheart neck and attached tulle tutu. It’s perfect for burgeoning ballerinas and recreational dancers alike. We also appreciate that this one piece saves us a step when getting dressed, leaving us more time for dancing. Yay. Turn up the music, it’s time to dance. Available in sizes 2T-6x-7. If you can’t find used, $29.00 & up, here.

Papa Loves St. Johns 06/14/2010

Filed under: mamas & papas, wear & diaper — cleeo @ 9:04 am

If you don’t live in Portland, you may not see the appeal of a t-shirt emblazoned with a steel suspension bridge, but if you do live here, you’ll know exactly why a Portland papa may love it. The St. Johns bridge, in lovely St. Johns, Oregon, is iconic. Built over a two year period from 1929-31, this gothic looking bridge was (at the time) the longest suspension bridge built west of Detroit. It’s huge and pretty amazing to both drive across and stand under. We recently bought this tee for a friend and he won’t take it off. Another reason why we thought dear old dad may think it’s pretty nifty. Printed from an original illustration by Colosso on an American Apparel t-shirt. Hand screen printed on order. Lots of colors to choose from. Just a note, AA tees are a bit snug. $23.00, here.

Fathers Day is only a couple of weeks away and though we’ll be featuring more dad goods next week, we couldn’t resist this rad dad heart tattoo t-shirt, by Wren Willow, for our papa loving tots. It’s the perfect way for any wee one to show appreciation for dear old dad without actually getting the tattoo. Tees are hand sketched, dyed and hand screened on Alternative Apparel T-Shirt using eco-friendly, water based inks and no harsh chemicals. Sizes limited to 12-18m in this style, but there’s a cute onesie with the same design. $20.00, here.

Skate And Destroy 05/24/2010

We grew up around board sports enthusiasts, but can’t say we spent too much time on skateboards ourselves. Maybe on our bums riding downhill, but other than that we were devoted supporters, and now we kind of regret not having learned to skate, too. Among the cleeo & bea tots, one of our little gals is quite the daredevil, so we won’t be surprised if she wants to pick up a skate or snowboard in the future. Nothing would please us more actually, provided she wears pads and skull protection. We love this little nutty helmet by nutcase, it’s one of the only ones we could find that would fit our tot’s nut. Equipped with one size spin-dial fit system, ABS injection shell, a shock absorbing liner and quick release buckles. Perfect for toddlers-5 year olds makes it an excellent deal for your buck.  Several cutie styles to choose from and of course this helmet can be used for biking or sooting. Size XS, $45.00, here.

Polished Punk

nomiss

Our toddlers are fascinated with painted toes and so are we. They’re glam and punk at the same time. Ever since we came home from a pedicure outing, one tot in particular has regularly been requesting that her tootsies be painted. She likes to tell people that her toes are painted, it’s a good conversation starter. We don’t paint her fingernails yet, but painting toenails is a fun and special big girl and mama bonding activity. She enjoys picking out her own colors, too. We were so happy to discover No Miss. They make a ton of crazy, non-toxic colors, great for the little ones. No junk including Formaldehyde * Toluene * Dibutyl-Pthalate or Camphor.Cosmetic colors come from the earth. Ingestible colors, though we still say no chewing, please. $6.99, here.

Why not another mention of one of our fave influential gals, Deborah Harry? Our kiddos love her and we’ve spent many a rainy afternoon dancing around the house to Blondie. It just feels good. And since we’ve been admirers for such a long time, we thought our toddler should have a sweet dress emblazoned with her image. This drop-waist and tank dress by Rowdy Sprout is perfect for little girls and a great way to honor a singer who paved the way for many after her. Love. 12 months-6T. $43.00, here.

roebuck-rhino

It seems we never have enough space for our tots’ ever growing wardrobe. We recently saw this sweet rhino (the odd-toed ungulate in this review) coat rack, by Roebuck studio, and were instantly smitten. We love the deep hook of the rhino’s horn. It’s perfect for holding multiple jackets and other goodies. The rack comes fully assembled and can be hung on drywall using included hardware. All rack’s edges are rounded for safety and is finished with a Greenguard certified, water based lacquer. Constructed from baltic birch wood and repurposed scrap material for small parts. And once kiddos are done with it, this keeper can easily be integrated elsewhere in the house. $75.00, here.

Greatest Hits: Puddles Beware 04/12/2010

balloong1

Every kid needs a pair of rubber galoshes for the rainy season. Our tots need them doubly so, since our rainy season is year long. We’d been searching for a durable winter and spring boot that would last through a couple of seasons and keep our tots feet and legs dry. We settled on Tretorn’s Jolly wellies, but the Balloong style is our new fave. They’re perfect for the professional puddle jumper or sailor, will keep them dry and they’re great looking. Waterproof rubber upper in a rain boot style with a pull tab and logo accents. Warm lining and cushioned insole. Flexible midsole. Traction patterned outsole for minimal slippage with enough height and girth for a pant leg. Super. Priced reasonably for quality. Colors vary. Sizes 10.5-2.5. $45.00, here.

One of our kiddos little buddies has a pair of Simple doodles. We think he looks pretty darn dapper in them and have been looking for a sensible shoe for walking around the zoo. When it comes to eco-friendly footwear, these little kicks are at the top of our list. Constructed with suede leather uppers sourced from tanneries that have been eco-friend certified with  natural rubber toe caps protect uppers. Lined with organic cotton fleece for maximum comfort. Laces are easy to adjust and made from recycled PET polyester and natural latex, securing with a pull toggle easy for little hands. Natural non-marking rubber outsoles supply excellent traction. Ode To The Mix Tape 03/08/2010

prefreshmixtape

In our humble opinion, the iPod can’t hold a candle to the old school venerablity of a mix tape. Don’t get us wrong, we heart our iPods, but there’s something to be said for the love and labor that went into compiling a mix on tape. Finding the perfect selection of songs for secret crushes and recording from radio or turntable to tape, nothing like it. And hoodies, well they’re a staple in this cleeo & bea mama’s household, so when we discovered this Mix Tape Hoodie by prefresh, we were beside ourselves. Tots in hoodies with a cassette tape graphic? Sold. This hoodie is super soft, has washed well and we love the play, rewind and eject buttons, too. 50% polyester+50% cotton. Available in sizes 2t-10t. $38.00 at prefresh.

With the arrival of our second tot, this cleeo & bea mama has been diapering, thinking or talking about potty time from the moment we wake until our heads hit the pillow. We’ve been trying out a few different types of training pants for our toddler and so far we’ve found these adorable little pants the best for daytime use. Blueberry trainers are designed to feel like real underwear. They’re lined with super soft cotton velour, a hidden layer of absorbent microterry and PUL. These training pants will do a great job of catching small accidents, but aren’t recommended for overnight. Good looking and do the job. Wide range of colors and styles. Sizes: Small (22-30 lb), Medium (25-35 lb), Large (32-42 lb). $15.95 each, here.

For You, Only The Best

wipesorganic1751

We’ve been searching high and low for the perfect baby wipe to use on our tots tooshes. We found them in Osocozy’s organic flannel wipes. These reusable cloth baby wipes are a great alternative to disposable diaper wipes and for wiping up everyday baby messes. Made from 100 % cotton flannel for softness and absorbency. Suited for delicate skin. Wipes soften with each washing. 7″ x 7″. Available in bleached (white) or unbleached (ivory) fabric. Not great for heavy duty dooty and sometimes disappear as quickly as socks do in the dryer,  but great for everything else. Made in the USA. 15-pack, $9.00, here.
