Goodnight, Foxy 06/07/2010

foxy

We love plush of all kinds and our kiddos can’t get enough of their felted forest friends either. They gather all of them together for meetings and dinners, just so they can get to know one another. We love this sleepy little fox by Sleepy King. She’s (we’ve decide she’s a gal) sweet, cuddly and looks slightly vintage to us. Each fox is made to order, so may take a few weeks to get to you, but we say even better because it’s a one-of-a-kind handmade woodland friend that kiddos can keep throughout  their kidhood. Foxy the sleepy red forest fox measures roughly 10″tall. Not sure what the fill is, so we can’t call it an eco-friend, but darn cute. $24.00, here.

Do You Rock Or Do You Swing?

We don’t generally review or entertain the idea of promoting anything constructed from plastic, but in this case, we’re closing our eyes and doing it. Upon the arrival of our second babe, we were given a Fisher Price swing and um, we’ve used it ever since. In fact, we can’t really imagine what our lives would be like without a swing. Here’s how we justify. First of all, ours was handed down to us and will likely continue its function as a bona fide babe soother for another kiddo’s family, until it breaks. We’re recycling at the very least here by keeping this swing out of the landfill, for the time being. We like the dwell studio for Target swing. It’s pretty attractive as swings go, equipped with a 3-point harness for safety. And kiddo loves staring at the sweet elephant mobile and listening to its soothing sounds. Perfect for 1-9 months or up to 25 lbs. Measures 40.5 ” x 6.0 “. $139.99, here.

Soundtrack To Sleep

beach-house-devotion

From the earliest days of parenthood, we’ve often dug through our own music stash for sweet songs to soothe our babes. Our youngest tot was born right around the time that Beach House’s Devotion was released and we’ve listened to it on loop for almost two years now. We seriously can’t believe we can still stomach it, but it really is the album of sleep at this cleeo & bea mama’s house, and works like a charm every time. The music is reminiscent of 90s Mazzy Star and we love this collection, their second release, because it’s pretty and dreamlike. We still don’t know any of the lyrics because they blend in so nicely with the music, but the babes love being soothed to sleep by the dreamy organ and swirling guitar. Favorite songs include “Gila” and “D.A.R.L.I.N.G”. Great stuff, highly recommended. $12.99, here

We’re always on the look out for anything to block sound while babies are sleeping in this cleeo & bea mama’s house. We’re a loud family living in a quaint bungalow. We recently saw this sleep sheep, by Cloud B, in action at a friend’s house and their newborn loved it. The little lamb produces four soothing sounds from mother’s calming heartbeat to the gentle sounds of nature. Adjust the volume to your babe’s needs and they’ll enjoy listening to the soothing sounds of ocean waves, spring showers, and harmonious whale songs. Velcro tabs attach to crib. Perfect for infants and up. $27.00, here.

Did you know Kitty Wells was the first woman country singer to release her own album? Go Kitty. She’s also the oldest living member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. She is a Country legend and her name is so cute. Our wee one and the youngest member of the cleeo & bea family loves Kitty Wells, in particular the songs found on The Collection. We find it calms her right down in moments of distress, because she completely relaxes and stops crying every time we play “(I’ll Always Be Your) Fraulein” and “Heartbreak USA”. Our friends think it’s hilarious, but we think we may have a future Grande Ole Opry star on our hands. Either way, we think this Kitty Wells collection or any other are a must. $8.79, here.

After a day of roping, little wranglers need a nap. And what better way to cozy up than with a bandana blanket? We recently happened upon these sweet, western inspired blankets by Wee Buckaroos and knew our kiddos needed to have one. Each blanket is constructed from four bandanas, custom made to order in any combination of colors and backed with your choice of chenille or a sweet cowpoke print. In true western style, these adorable blankets are plain and simple, just as we like them. They make the perfect swaddling blanket, nursing cover up or car seat cover. Love that. Blankets measure 40″ x 40,”just right for infants and toddlers, but can be sewn to suit big buckaroos, too. Excellent value for handmade. $40.00, here.

Whales Are Mammals 01/25/2010

Funny how so many of the facts we learned about mammals as kids can’t be found in the reaches of our mama brains. Whales are fish, right? Nope, air breathing mammals. Either way we like them and so do our kiddos. They’re large, but not menacing and in the case of this whale stuffie by Kate Durkin, downright sweet. We love this hand-embroidered little pillow. It’s the perfect addition to our tots growing collection of plush mammals. Measures about 9″ long, embroidered with heavy duty, mostly dog proof, thread on the front, and patterned fabric on the back. Excellent value for a handmade pillow or buddy. We say, yes. $22.00, here.

Not Your Grandma’s Kind Of Quilts 01/11/2010

Quilting is cool. We’ve always thought quilting was something for the older ladies in the family, but have recently realized we’re dead wrong. And with our newly acquired sewing skills, we’re dying to try our hand at quilting. We recently discovered Denyse Schmidt and couldn’t believe how beautiful, modern and geometric some of her designs are while still maintaining a timeless quality. We love the idea that we could potentially create something for our kiddos’ beds that combines our love of old and new. In her book, “Denyse Schmidt Quilts”, Schmidt reviews quilting fundamentals and provides patterns, easy-to follow instructions, tips and an artful approach to a traditional craft . As beginning seamsters, we’re drawn to her designs and are absolutely sure we’ll be working up to a quilt in the next several years. We’ll let you know, but if you already have exemplary sewing skills and thought quilting would never be something you’d be into, check this book out. $24.95, here.

Speaking Of Quilts

sewn-natural

As was mentioned in an earlier post, we’re quite certain we won’t be up to the task of  quilting anytime soon, given our lack of speed and accuracy on our sewing machine, so we’re still in buying mode when it comes to bedding for our kiddos’ rooms. We found this sweet eco-friendly quilt by Sewn Natural absolutely adorable. We heart Matryoshka dolls and think this colorful quilt is perfect. Super soft cotton by Kokka on the outside, off-white organic cotton on the underside and tightly woven organic cotton batting on the inside. A rare find and a treasure to keep in the family for years to come. Measures 31″ x 43″.$110.00, here.

Vintage inspired children’s illustrations are always a big hit with the cleeo & bea gals. We recently found Pixel organics designs and are enamored by their line of bedding. It’s sweet, gender neutral, bright and would be a great addition to any kid’s room. Pixel’s bedding includes crib, toddler and twin sets and additional pillow shams. Designs are great looking and bedding is soft and durable, made from 100% certified organic cotton sateen and 22o thread count. We feel great about supporting a company whose efforts to protect the planet are among the best in their industry. They use Refill, regenerated PET (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) fibers from processing discarded bottles, natural wool and cotton in all of their bedding, pillows and mattresses. Whoop .We think Pixel’s pillow cases are very cute and can easily work them in with bedding we already own. Fits standard pillow, 20″ x 26″ finish with double back closure. $36.00 each, here.

Gordon, We Love Your YARNHAWK! 10/26/2009

This little handmade feller by everyeskimo, is one dapper dude. We rather like his hand-plugged yarnhawk. And his felt horn/ears are pretty adorable, too. Handmade plush goodies are some of our favorites and we just never seem to have enough of them, so we’ve added Gordon to our family. He’s a sweetie, kids love him and he loves cherry cola, which makes us laugh. Measures 7″ tall, not sure what Gordon’s internal make-up is, so can’t say he’s an eco-friend. No chewing, please. Good looking, durable and makes a great buddy. Excellent value. A cleeo & bea favorite etsy seller. $16.00, here.

Gentle Giant 09/28/2009

awaketonap3_lg

A week can’t go by without reading “Awake To Nap” by Nikki Mcclure to our wee ones, at least a few times. It’s such a sweet alphabet book highlighting the detail and beauty of Mcclure’s work and never gets old. Each illustration in this little book is a print of x-acto knife paper cuts from a single piece of black paper. And the corresponding letters and text are pretty nifty, too, with two words for each letter. We like the communing crows and the ear emergency. Also, love that the book trails off at the letter “N” just as the kiddos nod and drift into dreamland. Perfect. $9.95, here.

Security Blanket 09/14/2009

owl

We love to watch our babes sleep. They’re so quiet and look so cozy. We’d been shopping these soft little blankets before we had kiddos, so when the time came we scooped one up. Made from chemical-free cotton and rayon in Germany, Fussenegger blankets are the perfect size for newborns. We occasionally used it as a swaddling blanket and had little problem tucking and folding it. These blankets are good looking, durable and wash incredibly well. Like with most natural fibers, we’ve seen no pilling. We usually double it with another light weight blanket for extra warmth in the winter, but otherwise, it’s perfect in bed and in the stroller. And if they’re going to be attached to anything (beside us) it may as well be a Fussenegger blanket. Machine washable. 27.5″ x 35.5″. Various styles. Excellent value. $36.95, here
