Here is how we, at cleeo & bea, rate the products we review:

This product is awesome. It gets our highest rating of five birds because it’s a ridiculously great example of a product that has passed all of our rigorous kid and parent testing. It performs as promised, is innovative, durable, stylish and extremely well-suited to our kids’ needs. They can’t stop chewing on it, playing with it or talking about it. This product is an excellent value and has maintained through our kids infancy into toddlerdom. It has also made our lives a little bit easier. We’d definitely buy another one, maybe two and give this product to all of our friends’ babies and kids. We’d never regift it, unless we’d squeezed every last drop of goodness out of it.

  What is this rating?

If a product receives an e rating it means that we feel the company producing it is making an outstanding effort to do so in an environmentally and globally responsible way. The materials and method of production used to create this product have less of an impact on the planet, which is ultimately better for the health of our kids. This product is made from recycled materials or can be recycled, and is completely non-toxic.

None of the products we rate receive 5 birds without an e rating. 

This product is safe if instructions and warnings are followed.

This product is very good and gets a high rating of four birds because it passes most of our rigorous kid and parent testing. Our kids love it and it’s durable, stylish and pretty well-suited to our kids’ needs. There may be a slight modification we’d make to this product and it may not get an e rating, which is why it doesn’t get five birds, but it’s still an excellent value and has maintained through our kids infancy into toddlerdom. It has also made our lives a little bit easier. We would recommend this product to other families and friends, buy it as a gift and would feel comfortable passing it on after much use.

This product is good and gets a satisfactory rating of three birds. It passes some of our rigorous kid and parent testing. It may have a few flaws, but is pretty durable and our kids like to play with it for short periods of time. This is a decent product, but may not wash well, may break and is somewhat suited to our kids’ needs. We would recommend it to other families with a disclaimer and would feel comfortable passing it on with a newly created warning label.

This product is mostly safe if instructions and warnings are followed.

This product is so-so and gets a rating of two birds. It looked good online or in the store. It doesn’t really pass our rigorous kid and parent testing, though we’ve made quite a few attempts. Our kids like it fine, but it’s more suited to an older kid. Some of the parts seem unsafe for little hands and mouths, easily came apart or are broken and we can’t repair them. We would never recommend it to our friends or other families, unless the product had a complete makeover and a serious disclaimer.

This product received our lowest score of one bird because it didn’t pass any of our rigorous kid or parent testing. It made it’s way to the basement after a week. We feel bad about throwing it away, but won’t use it because there’s something really off about it or it’s unsafe for the kids. It may catch on fire too easily. We would never recommend this product to other families and don’t think it’s worthy of the donation pile.
